A Rich Artist Is a Dead Artist (2024), is a handmade glazed, ceramic urn surrounded by ceremonial objects and a will outlining that a portion of the artist’s ashes will be stored within the urn following her death. This work’s dry, vacuous humour responds to the absurd notion of an artist’s death as a route to fame, conveyed through the provocative question stated to the viewer of the urn, “Am I Famous Now?”.
A Rich Artist is a Dead Artist (2024) is part of a larger body of work in progress where Woods’ investigates traditional contemporary art values, taboo, feminism and her identity within this discourse through a disability informed lens.
