Raised in Far North Queensland and now studying Visual Arts at QUT, emerging multimedia artist Kelsey Woods explores the intricate relationship between healthcare and the female body, describing her investigation as the Medicalised Feminine. Veil of Reverie (2024) examines the boundaries between mind, body, and biology through a manipulated, slow-moving spinal MRI scan. As a visual metaphor to explore the clinical disconnection from personal identity soft shades of dusty pink, white, and rich purple intricately weave vertebrae, nerves, flesh, into a symmetrical pattern that breathes life on the surface of the Judith Wright Art Gallery. Veil of Reverie (2024) subtly weaves together broader dynamics of identity, health, and socio-political structures through a feminist lens.
